The Yobe State Government has announced plans for a grand reception in honour of two outstanding secondary school students — Nafisa Abdallah and Rukayya Muhammad Fema — who recently emerged as world champions in English language proficiency and debate at the prestigious 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.
The two students, both from Nigerian Tulip International College in Yobe State, represented Nigeria at the international competition, where they triumphed over 20,000 participants from 69 countries across the world. Nafisa was declared the World Best in English Language Skills, while Rukayya claimed the top prize in the overall debate competition category.
In recognition of their achievements, Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved a formal state ceremony to celebrate the girls’ success, which he described as “a great honour to Yobe State and Nigeria at large.”
“These are great feats that make us proud and further justify our administration’s investment in education,” Governor Buni stated through a press release issued by his spokesperson, Mamman Mohammed, Director General of Press and Media Affairs.
Both Nafisa and Rukayya are direct beneficiaries of the state’s scholarship programme, which currently covers full tuition for 890 students enrolled at Nigerian Tulip International College. The governor explained that such results affirm the state’s strategy to develop human capital through deliberate and sustained investment in education.

Governor Buni reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every child in Yobe has access to quality education. He pointed out that his government has reconstructed several schools destroyed during the Boko Haram insurgency, supplied new furniture, distributed books and lab equipment, and recruited more qualified teachers in a bid to rebuild and improve the education system.
“Our efforts are ongoing, and we appeal to parents to support the government in making education accessible and effective for all children,” he added.
As of now, about 40,000 students of Yobe origin are enrolled in tertiary institutions within Nigeria and abroad on state-funded scholarships, according to official figures. This includes students studying medicine, engineering, computer science, and other fields in countries such as India.
Notably, the state recently celebrated the graduation of 167 scholarship recipients from various Indian universities. These graduates specialized in disciplines like medical sciences, computer science, and engineering — part of a broader initiative to build a skilled, globally competitive workforce for the state’s future.
The upcoming ceremony to honour Nafisa and Rukayya will be attended by top government officials, educators, community leaders, and representatives from NTIC, where the girls have been nurtured into global academic champions.
Governor Buni called on young people in the state to emulate the dedication and brilliance of the two girls, noting that their victory proves that students from Yobe can compete — and win — at the highest levels globally when given the right opportunities.
The Yobe government has not yet announced the date of the celebration, but officials have assured that the event will reflect the magnitude of the girls’ achievements on the international stage.
