Pop icon Madonna has made a heartfelt plea to Pope Leo XIV to travel to Gaza, calling on him to “bring your light to the children” amid a worsening humanitarian crisis.

Madonna took to social media on Monday, expressing her urgent appeal to Pope Leo XIV to undertake a humanitarian visit to Gaza. “Most Holy Father, please go to Gaza and bring your light to the children before it’s too late. As a mother, I cannot bear to watch their suffering. The children of the world belong to everyone,” she wrote, addressing her message directly to the pontiff .

Posting on X in recognition of her son Rocco’s birthday, Madonna emphasized the moral urgency, stating: “Politics cannot affect change. Only consciousness can. Therefore I am reaching out to a Man of God.” She encouraged followers to support humanitarian efforts, stressing that “there is no more time,” and urging the opening of humanitarian access to protect innocent children caught in the conflict .

The singer added that her appeal was not about assigning blame or taking sides: “Everyone is suffering. Including the mothers of the hostages. I pray that they are released as well,” demonstrating empathy across all affected communities .

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus acknowledged Madonna’s call with gratitude, praising her “compassion, solidarity and commitment to care for everyone caught in the Gaza crisis, especially the children” and reinforcing the imperative that “humanity and peace must prevail” .

Since beginning his papacy in May, Pope Leo XIV has been vocal about the crisis, expressing concern over civilian suffering and hunger in Gaza and calling for a ceasefire . UNICEF and WHO have flagged dire conditions, reporting that over 18,000 children have died, hunger is widespread, and starvation is becoming a man-made catastrophe in the region .

Whether Israeli authorities would permit such a papal visit remains uncertain, though Madonna’s plea highlights mounting global calls for spiritual leadership amid one of the world’s most tragic humanitarian emergencies.
