Big Brother Naija season 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, is on Instagram with a tearful outburst on the fate of her sister, Ruth.
She accused the Dangote Group of neglect and manipulation in handling the tragic case of Ruth, who lost a leg after being hit by one of the company’s trucks.
During the emotional sessionWednesday, Phyna lamented the lack of follow-through on promises allegedly made by representatives of the cement giant who assured her that her sister would be flown abroad for advanced treatment but have since “gone silent” despite her repeated pleas.
“Dangote Group are trying to manipulate me on my sister’s issue. They promised to fly her out, but nothing has been done. Every day that passes, her condition worsens,” Phyna cried out to her audience, who flooded the comments with words of support and outrage.
Her outpouring reignited conversations on social media, with many Nigerians calling for corporate accountability and demanding justice for Ruth.
Some commenters urged Phyna to escalate the matter legally, while others warned against allowing the case to be swept under the carpet.
The saga began on August 13, just six days after Ruth had graduated from Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.
A truck belonging to the Dangote Group reportedly lost control and struck her, leaving her with devastating injuries.
Ruth’s right leg was amputated in the immediate aftermath, while doctors expressed concern that her second leg might also be at risk.
The accident threw the Otabor family into turmoil, with Phyna stepping in to demand urgent and adequate medical attention for her sister.
In the days following the crash, Phyna accused police officers of removing the truck’s number plate at the behest of the company and lamented that a Dangote manager had chosen to report at the police station rather than rush to the hospital.
Her demands have been consistent: that Ruth should be flown abroad—particularly to India—for specialist care.
Phyna argued that if Ruth were the child of a wealthy businessman like Aliko Dangote, she would not be left in a Nigerian hospital.
Amid growing public pressure, Dangote Cement Plc confirmed the accident in a statement, acknowledging the involvement of its truck.
The company explained that senior officials and insurance representatives had visited the scene, liaised with law enforcement, and reached out to Ruth’s family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.
The firm pledged to “ensure full medical care” and provide compensation in line with its welfare policies.
However, Phyna’s latest Live video suggests she remains unconvinced, accusing the company of stalling while her sister’s health deteriorates.
The tragedy has sparked national outrage. Actress Kate Henshaw and other celebrities have thrown their weight behind Phyna, echoing concerns about delays and urging her not to relent.
On Instagram, followers advised her to pursue legal redress both locally and internationally.
One user wrote: “Sue them in an international court. Would Dangote treat his daughter or son in Nigeria?”
Another advised her to ensure Ruth is stabilized before being flown out, while simultaneously charging the case to court to secure justice.
With the Dangote Group under public scrutiny, Nigerians are watching to see whether the company will honor its commitment to the Otabor family.
For Phyna, however, the fight appears personal and unrelenting.
Her Instagram Live yesterday made one thing clear: she is determined to secure justice and proper care for Ruth—whether by persuasion, public pressure, or the courts.
