Abdulrasak Falilat has etched her name in history as the first athlete to win a gold medal for Team Kwara at the ongoing National Youth Games, clinching victory in the female 40km road race.

Her triumph was followed by Atanda Abdulmaleek, who secured a bronze medal in the male 80km road race, further boosting Kwara’s medal tally.

In Para-Table Tennis, the duo of Ridwan Mustapha and Abubakri Khalid earned bronze in the boys’ doubles event, while the swimming team showed resilience by adding another bronze in the girls’ 4×100 medley relay.

The table tennis contingent also displayed strong form, with Yetunde Semilore and Yusuf Mohammed storming into the quarter-finals after defeating their Lagos opponents in the boys’ doubles. Other categories in the event are still in play.

In Fives, Gaana Grace and Busayo Falana advanced to the finals of the female doubles and are now eyeing gold.

Meanwhile, it was a tough outing for Team Kwara in the Ayo singles, as the female players were knocked out of the event, but the team remains hopeful of bouncing back in subsequent games.

Several other events are ongoing, including boxing, cricket, volleyball, Taekwondo, shooting, cycling, golf, and handball. New contests in para-powerlifting, squash, tennis, and darts are also set to commence, as Team Kwara continues its pursuit of podium finishes across multiple sports.
