Picture a pot so wide that twenty people could stand inside it shoulder-to-shoulder. Now imagine it filled with steaming jollof rice.
That is the vision Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, is bringing to life with her next record-breaking attempt.
Set for September 12, the challenge will see her cook 250 bags of rice in a specially built pot measuring about 6 metres across and holding 22,619 litres.
By her calculation, the feat requires more than 5,000 kilograms of rice and about 1,583 kilograms of tomato paste, blended with pepper chicken and jollof paste to achieve the signature flavour.
The project, expected to feed around 10,000 people, comes two years after she earned global fame by clinching the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) in 2023, when she cooked non-stop for 93 hours and 11 minutes in Lagos. That marathon transformed her into a household name across Nigeria and beyond.
From Akwa Ibom to Lagos Spotlight
Born in Akwa Ibom State, Hilda Baci studied sociology before pursuing her passion for food.
She built her career as a professional chef, TV personality, and entrepreneur, eventually opening My Food by Hilda, a fast-growing restaurant in Lagos known for its rich Nigerian meals.
Her journey from a small-town dreamer to an international culinary figure has inspired thousands, especially young women eager to push boundaries.
