Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala has completed a major move to Saudi Arabia, joining Al Hilal Women’s Premier League side on a two-year contract.

The transfer was finalised on Monday after the Super Falcons forward successfully underwent medicals in Riyadh, according to ESPN.

The 30-year-old striker, who joined Bay FC in the United States earlier this year, was notably absent from the club’s recent fixture against Angel City, where she was listed as excused. Her departure ends a short spell in the National Women’s Soccer League, marking another significant chapter in her career.

Al Hilal confirmed the signing in an announcement on Instagram, simply stating: “Welcome Asisat Oshoala.” The club hopes the acquisition of the experienced forward will bolster its attacking strength as it looks to improve on last season’s sixth-place finish.

Oshoala arrives in Saudi Arabia with an illustrious résumé. A two-time Ballon d’Or nominee, she enjoyed a glittering five-year stint with Barcelona Femeni, scoring 107 goals in 149 appearances.

During her time in Spain, she lifted five Liga F titles and two UEFA Women’s Champions League trophies, cementing her reputation as one of the most prolific strikers in women’s football.

Her career has spanned multiple continents and leagues, beginning with Nigerian clubs Robo and Rivers Angels before she earned high-profile moves to Arsenal and Liverpool in England, then to Chinese side Dalian Quanjian, and eventually Barcelona. Her latest transfer adds Saudi Arabia to the list of countries where she has made her mark.

In Riyadh, Oshoala will reunite with two of her Nigerian international teammates, defender Ashleigh Plumptre and forward Francisca Ordega, both of whom already play in the Saudi league.

Their presence signals a growing Nigerian influence in the rapidly developing women’s football scene in the Middle East.

The Saudi Women’s Premier League itself is undergoing transformation, having expanded from eight to 10 teams last season.

The country is investing heavily in football, particularly the women’s game, as part of wider efforts to enhance its global sporting profile.

Oshoala’s arrival adds star power and international experience to a league eager to attract attention worldwide.

Beyond her on-field success, Oshoala has become a role model for aspiring African footballers. Known for her pace, strength, and clinical finishing, she has also been celebrated for her resilience, balancing club commitments across continents with her leadership role in Nigeria’s national team.

For Al Hilal, her signing is both a statement of intent and a strategic addition. For Oshoala, it represents another bold step in a career defined by breaking barriers and leaving a lasting impact wherever she plays.

With her proven record at the highest levels of European and global football, the Super Falcons star is expected to light up the Saudi league and inspire a new wave of women’s football fans in the region.
