The Yoruba film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of Shina, the only son of veteran actress Peju Ogunmola.
The heartbreaking incident reportedly occurred while Ogunmola, 56, was on a movie set. Shina, described as a bright young man with a promising future, had just completed his National Youth Service Corps programme — a milestone that filled his mother with pride only weeks ago.
His sudden passing has left the family and colleagues in shock, with tributes pouring in across social media and within the Nollywood community.
Many described the loss as not only devastating to the Omobolanle family but also a painful blow to Yoruba cinema, where Peju Ogunmola has long been respected for her craft and humility.
Peju Ogunmola is one of the most respected faces in the Yoruba movie industry, with a career spanning decades.
She is the daughter of the late theatre legend, Kola Ogunmola, who was a pioneer in Yoruba theatre and left an indelible mark on Nigerian performing arts.
Carrying on her father’s legacy, she carved her niche in Nollywood through numerous stage plays and Yoruba-language films, earning recognition for her versatility and strong screen presence.
Married to Sunday Omobolanle (Papi Luwe), another heavyweight in comedy and Yoruba film, the actress has been part of some of the most celebrated Yoruba productions and is widely admired for her dedication to the craft.
Her loss is particularly painful to fans and colleagues who have seen her family as a pillar in Nollywood.
