Play More Football Academy has organized a comprehensive coaching seminar aimed at equipping football coaches, players, and enthusiasts with modern knowledge and techniques for player development.

The event was held at the Union Bank Sports Complex, Lagos, and featured renowned coaches who shared insights on contemporary coaching methodologies, tactics, and player welfare.

The seminar included practical demonstrations of training drills, technical exercises, and match simulations, with participants engaging in interactive discussions on strategies, formations, and mental preparation.

Mr. Abayomi Oyekan of Excel Football Academy, a participant, described the seminar as both “informative and engaging,” adding that the knowledge gained would help him improve his coaching skills.

“I have learned new strategies for creating a positive learning environment that fosters individual growth and improvement.

“Understanding how to build players’ mental toughness, confidence and resilience to perform under pressure will also greatly enhance team performance,” he said.

Oyekan added that connecting with other coaches and exchanging experiences provided valuable insights into effective coaching methods, including player-centered training and game-like practice sessions.

Certificates of participation were awarded to attendees, signifying their commitment to professional development and continuous improvement in football coaching.

Mr. Lawrence Okonji, Organizers and Co-Trainer with FC Regensdorf U-19 Youth League, Switzerland, told NAN that Nigerian coaches often face challenges due to inadequate resources but noted that seminars of this nature help bridge the gap.

“Having obtained UEFA certification, I am leveraging my knowledge to support and empower fellow coaches.

“I recommend the use of small-sided games as they enhance player development, reduce pressure on young athletes, and create more effective learning environments,” he said.

Okonji explained that Play More Football Academy operates with a unique concept used by elite clubs globally, designed to promote creativity, flair, and ownership among players.

He noted that the academy plans to continue hosting similar programmes as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots football development and raise the standard of coaching in Nigeria.
