The Ukrainian military announced on Monday that it had suffered another sudden outage of the Starlink satellite internet service, a critical system that has become indispensable for both military operations and civilian life since Russia’s invasion in 2022.
According to Robert Brovdi, head of Ukraine’s drone units, the disruption occurred along the entire front line at exactly 7:28 a.m. local time.
Writing on his Telegram channel, Brovdi explained that the system went dark across a wide area, leaving units briefly without access to the high-speed satellite network that powers much of Ukraine’s command, control, and reconnaissance work.
“The system began to be gradually restored about 30 minutes later,” Brovdi confirmed, noting that communications slowly returned but not before the brief collapse raised alarm among commanders and field operators.
Starlink, operated by billionaire Elon Musk’s company SpaceX, has played a pivotal role in maintaining Ukraine’s resilience against Russian aggression.
With much of the country’s traditional telecommunications infrastructure destroyed by missile and drone strikes, Starlink terminals have ensured hospitals, schools, government offices, and emergency services remain connected to the outside world.
On the battlefield, Ukrainian forces rely on the network to coordinate drone strikes, share intelligence, and sustain secure communication channels.
The outage was not confined to Ukraine alone. At roughly the same time, users in the United States also reported difficulties accessing Starlink services, according to data from the outage-tracking platform Down detector.

While the disruption appeared temporary, the coincidence of failures across continents drew attention to the fragility of the network and its heavy dependence on SpaceX’s infrastructure.
So far, neither Starlink nor SpaceX has issued a statement explaining the cause of the outage. The silence has fueled speculation about whether the disruption was due to technical faults, cyber interference, or deliberate Russian attempts to jam or hack the system.
Ukrainian officials did not provide further details but stressed the urgency of understanding the cause, given the system’s strategic importance.
This is not the first time Ukraine has experienced such problems. In July, Starlink users across the country reported another widespread disruption that lasted several hours.
Each incident has highlighted both the value and vulnerability of the satellite system, underscoring Ukraine’s reliance on a private company for essential wartime communications.
International observers have also expressed concern that outages in Starlink could have significant consequences for the trajectory of the conflict.
A prolonged or repeated collapse of service along the front lines could undermine Ukraine’s ability to conduct coordinated drone operations, defend critical infrastructure, or maintain situational awareness during Russian offensives.
For now, the latest outage appears to have been brief, with communications restored within half an hour.
Yet the event serves as a stark reminder of how much Ukraine’s wartime resilience depends on reliable access to modern satellite systems—and how any disruption, however short-lived, reverberates far beyond the battlefield.
