The National Assembly has unsealed the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, marking a decisive turn in the controversy surrounding her suspension.
The office, located in suite 2.05 of the Senate wing, was reopened by the Sergeant at Arms in collaboration with security agencies, granting the senator renewed access to the premises.
The move follows months of restriction placed on the Kogi Central senator after she was suspended by the Senate for six months over alleged breaches of its standing rules.
Her suspension had prevented her from performing legislative functions and sparked widespread criticism across the country.
The Nigeria Labour Congress,NLC, condemned the action, describing it as “unfair, undemocratic, and a dangerous precedent for Nigeria’s democracy.”
Similarly, Afenifere, the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, faulted the Senate’s decision and demanded that Akpoti-Uduaghan be reinstated without delay.
The matter escalated into a legal battle, where a Federal High Court ruled that the suspension was excessive and unconstitutional.

The court stressed that denying her access to the chamber for such an extended period deprived her constituents of representation, undermining the democratic process.
Despite the ruling, the Senate maintained that Akpoti-Uduaghan could not resume her duties without either a fresh resolution of the chamber or a definitive court directive.
This stance prolonged uncertainty over her return, even as public debate intensified around legislative accountability and the limits of parliamentary power.
With her office now unsealed, Akpoti-Uduaghan has regained entry into the National Assembly, signaling progress in efforts to restore her position.
Her legal team has emphasized that she remains a duly elected senator, arguing that she is presumed innocent until proven guilty and poses no flight risk.
While the development clears one hurdle, the senator’s full reinstatement will ultimately depend on further court proceedings and political decisions in the weeks ahead.
For now, the reopening of her office stands as a critical step toward resuming her legislative duties.
