The Kwara State Government has announced the relocation of its 2025 Medical and Surgical Outreach Programme for Ifelodun Local Government Area, citing security considerations.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam said the programme would now hold at the Cottage Hospital, Omupo, instead of the Specialist Hospital, Oke Ode.

The exercise, scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2025, is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to expand access to quality healthcare services across the state.

The decision followed a review of prevailing security concerns in some parts of the state and was also intended to enhance accessibility for more communities within the local government.

“The programme will provide free medical consultations, surgical procedures and other essential healthcare services aimed at improving the well-being of residents,” the commissioner said.

Dr. El-Imam urged residents of Ifelodun and adjoining communities to take advantage of the outreach, reaffirming government’s commitment to protecting lives while delivering people-centred healthcare services.

It should be noted that tragic incident occurred in Oke Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Sunday morning when armed bandits invaded the community, killing several people including vigilante officers.

Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen launched a surprise attack on a security camp in the town.

A video circulating on social media appears to show forest guards being overpowered and murdered by the armed men. However, another source claims that the forest guards successfully repelled some attackers who tried to breach their positions.

The situation is currently tense, with soldiers deployed to the scene. The attack has left several people dead, and voices in the video evidence confirm the tragic loss of life.
