The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that more than 6.8 million Nigerians have completed registration in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, exercise, underscoring the strong enthusiasm of citizens, especially young people, to participate in future elections.
According to INEC’s Week Six update released on its official website on Tuesday, a total of 6,851,000 pre-online registrations were recorded as of October 5. The figure reflects a growing interest among Nigerians to exercise their civic rights ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Breaking down the data, INEC revealed that 3.58 million registrants (52.23%) were female, while 3.27 million (47.77%) were male.
The youth demographic—citizens aged between 18 and 34—dominated the registration process, making up 4.68 million of the total. The commission also disclosed that 1.72 million students had completed pre-online registration, alongside 154,479 Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs).
On physical registration, INEC reported that 1.21 million Nigerians have completed the process at registration centres nationwide. Of this figure, 658,766 individuals finalized their registration after initiating it online, while 557,282 Nigerians completed the process entirely through physical registration.
The statistics show that women continue to demonstrate strong participation, with 675,222 female registrants (55.53%), compared to 540,826 males (44.47%). Youths again led this phase, with 897,676 registrations from those aged 18 to 34 years.
Students formed a significant portion of the total, with 424,126 completed registrations recorded in Week Six alone, while 17,450 PWDs successfully completed their registration.

INEC said the figures demonstrate the positive impact of ongoing voter sensitization campaigns, mobile registration units, and digital platforms that simplify the voter registration process. The commission reiterated that the CVR is an open and continuous exercise, allowing citizens who have not registered, recently turned 18, or relocated to new constituencies to update their voter records.
The commission also encouraged registrants to visit https://cvr.inecnigeria.org to pre-register or verify their information before visiting registration centres for biometric capture. This, INEC said, reduces crowding and ensures a faster process.
INEC officials added that the CVR initiative is not just about increasing numbers but ensuring inclusivity and accessibility, particularly for young people, women, and persons with disabilities.
“The enthusiasm among young Nigerians is encouraging,” the statement read. “Their participation signifies renewed trust in the electoral process and a desire to influence national leadership through the ballot.”
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and improved technology in managing future elections, saying that early voter registration is vital for ensuring credibility and logistical efficiency when polling begins.
As the CVR progresses, INEC continues to call on political parties, civil society organizations, and community leaders to mobilize eligible citizens to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of upcoming elections.
