The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that a total of 7,415,760 Nigerians have completed online pre-registration in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration, CVR exercise, with Borno State leading the nation in new voter sign-ups.
INEC revealed this in its latest weekly update released on Tuesday in Abuja, showing that Borno had registered 783,546 prospective voters as of October 12.
Other states with strong participation include Osun (632,751), Lagos (590,341), Kebbi (557,778), and Kaduna (471,375).
The online registration, which began nationwide on August 18, continues to witness massive interest, particularly from young Nigerians.
Of the total figure, 5,095,056 registrants (68.7%) are youths aged between 18 and 34 years, underlining their growing involvement in Nigeria’s democratic process.
The gender breakdown shows that 3,877,330 (52.28%) of registrants are female, while 3,538,430 (47.72%) are male.
Students represent 1,873,848 of the total, and 168,680 Persons With Disabilities have also taken part in the digital process, demonstrating improved accessibility and inclusion in the registration system.

INEC further disclosed that 1,502,733 registrants have completed both online and physical registration phases. Of these, 878,715 transitioned from online to physical completion, while 674,018 completed the process entirely in person at registration centres.
Women also outnumbered men in the final registration phase, with 828,563 (55.14%) completing their records compared to 674,170 (44.86%) men.
The occupational data shows that students accounted for 33.7% (507,097) of the total, followed by business owners (279,384) and housewives (223,903).
INEC’s weekly analysis shows that Lagos State recorded the highest number of completed registrations for the week with 78,128, followed closely by Kano (82,703) and Oyo (43,165).
The commission commended citizens for embracing digital registration channels, which it described as a step toward cleaner and more efficient voter data.
However, INEC reminded the public that all forms of registration — both online and physical — remain suspended in Anambra State pending the conclusion of the November 8 governorship election.
The ongoing CVR initiative, which combines online and physical processes, is part of INEC’s broader effort to ensure inclusivity, reduce bottlenecks, and prepare adequately for upcoming elections.
With over seven million pre-registrations recorded, the commission said it was encouraged by citizens’ enthusiasm and reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent voter registration system.
