Popular design platform Canva suffered a widespread outage on Monday, disrupting creative workflows for millions of users across the globe. The downtime, which began early in the day, prevented users from logging in, saving projects, or downloading completed designs.
The incident sparked a wave of frustration on social media, as both professionals and casual users expressed concern over the unavailability of a tool that has become integral to digital design, marketing, and communication.
“Is anyone else’s Canva down?” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter), while another complained, “My entire workday depends on Canva, and now I’m stuck.”
In a statement posted on X, Canva acknowledged the outage, writing:
“Not the ideal situation right now, but we’re working on it. You can check canvastatus.com for updates. We’ll keep you posted!”
While the company did not immediately provide details about the cause, reports from users across Africa, Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia indicated that the outage affected both desktop and mobile access.
According to the online monitoring platform Downdetector, reports of Canva’s failure peaked within an hour of the first disruptions, with thousands of complaints logged worldwide.

Founded in 2013, Canva has grown to over 170 million monthly active users across more than 190 countries. It has become a staple for social media managers, students, educators, entrepreneurs, and major corporations, offering tools for everything from simple posters to complex brand campaigns.
The outage highlights the increasing dependence of businesses and content creators on cloud-based design platforms. Many users voiced concerns about losing unsaved projects and missing client deadlines as they waited for restoration.
“It’s crazy how much of our workflow is tied to Canva,” said Tonia Briggs, a Lagos-based social media strategist. “We couldn’t even access brand templates or edit content for scheduled posts.”
some users reported partial restoration of services, but Canva’s status page continued to list “major service disruption” across several key functions, including design editing, export, and collaboration features.
The company assured users that no data loss was expected, and that engineers were working “around the clock” to stabilise operations.
“We understand how much you rely on us for your work, school, and creative projects. We’re committed to restoring normal service as soon as possible.”
Despite the setback, users praised Canva for its transparency and quick communication, with many hoping that lessons learned from the outage would strengthen the platform’s infrastructure.
As of the time of filing this report, full functionality had yet to be confirmed, but the company said it would provide regular updates as repairs progressed.
