The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has announced a series of strategic measures to ensure a safer motoring environment during the 2025 Ember Months, as part of its ongoing end-of-year road safety campaign.
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, while addressing press men on Monday in Abuja, reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to reducing road crashes and fatalities during the festive period.
Mohammed said that the FRSC had mapped out actionable measures to achieve the objectives of the 2025 end-of-year campaign including the deployment of personnel and Special Marshals across major highways and crash-prone corridors nationwide.
He promised that the Corps will also conduct a free vehicle check exercise to improve vehicle roadworthiness and safety compliance.

“Other key activities include the organization of motor park rallies and motorcar carnivals across the country to raise public awareness on safe driving habits.
“In addition, Town hall meetings will be held to strengthen collaboration with transport unions, security agencies, and other critical stakeholders for a seamless ember months campaign,” Mohammed said.
The corps marshal explained that these measures, alongside the FRSC’s routine enforcement operations, were aimed at curbing reckless driving often associated with the ember months and reducing road crash-related deaths and injuries.
“It is expected that the implementation of these measures will significantly reduce the percentage of occurrence of road crashes and drive down crash-related deaths and injuries,” he added.
Mohammed highlighted some of the Corps’ achievements in recent months, including strategic partnerships, capacity building, and enforcement interventions.
He said that driving schools had been engaged to improve driver training standards, while fleet operators were tasked with meeting the minimum safety standards for vehicle operations.
The corps, he noted, also worked closely with non-governmental organizations and Civil Society Groups to strengthen advocacy for road safety.
He further revealed that the establishment of mobile courts and stop-over operations had helped tackle persistent violations such as overloading and speeding, yielding positive results.
“One of the major platforms adopted by the Corps to canvass support for road safety is the FRSC Annual Lecture Series.
“The Lecture Series was resuscitated this year to create awareness on the recurrent issues of road safety as a major public health challenge requiring urgent attention and action,” he said.
The FRSC boss described the lecture as a platform for consultations and exchange of ideas on global best practices in road safety management through strategic partnerships.
Mohammed reaffirmed that the FRSC remained resolute in its mission to ensure safer roads, particularly as the year draws to a close, urging all road users to act responsibly and support the Corps’ efforts in reducing crashes nationwide.
