President Bola Tinubu on Thursday unveiled NINAuth, a new digital identity and consent-management platform designed to give Nigerians full control over who can access their personal data across government and private services.

The innovation, developed by the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, was launched at the State House, Abuja, in the presence of top officials, including the Ministers of Interior, Finance, and the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

NIMC Director-General, Abisoye Coker Odusote described NINAuth as “a platform that restores data autonomy to Nigerians.”

“It’s a platform that allows user consent management Nigerians can now decide what information they want to share and with whom, whether for banking, SIM registration, education, or healthcare,” she explained.

According to Coker Odusote, the app also enables users to revoke access to their data at any time, promoting digital privacy and transparency.

“After granting access, you can later revoke it. It gives citizens autonomy and full control,” she added. “For instance, if law enforcement stops you, you can instantly show your verified digital ID within the app.”

The NINAuth app consolidates multiple forms of identification including driver’s license, student loan ID, bank verification, and health insurance into a single digital wallet, simplifying everyday transactions.

Coker-Odusote said the app eliminates form duplication, allowing users to scan QR codes at banks or offices for instant, verified data sharing.

She further explained that the platform integrates sectoral databases in taxation, banking, immigration, and education, all linked through the National Identification Number as Nigeria’s foundational digital identity.

“NIMC-NIN is the single source of truth. Every other ID links back to it,” she stated. “This ensures accountability, prevents ghost beneficiaries, and strengthens government transparency.”

Through real-time alerts, users can now see when their NIN is accessed, approve or deny requests, and track data activity instantly, reinforcing public trust in Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.

The unveiling ceremony featured live demonstrations showcasing how NINAuth simplifies processes such as passport renewal, tax registration, student loan access, and small business onboarding.

Coker-Odusote concluded that the innovation marks a major step toward Nigeria’s digital transformation, empowering citizens and reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks in identity management.
