The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Bagudu, has called for a more result-oriented partnership between Nigeria and Germany to help Nigeria achieve its $1 trillion economy target by 2030.

Bagudu made the call when a delegation from the Giessen Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK Giessen-Friedberg) visited his office in Abuja on Wednesday.

He emphasised that Nigeria’s international collaborations must move beyond ceremonial visits to deliver measurable outcomes that directly improve citizens’ welfare, strengthen institutions, and foster inclusive economic growth.

“We are committed to shifting from process to progress, from meetings to measurable results. What matters most to this administration is impact,” Bagudu stated.

The minister noted that partnerships should translate into job creation, enterprise growth, and tangible development rather than remain symbolic gestures between governments and business entities.

He praised the German delegation for promoting a practical and impactful partnership, highlighting Germany’s expertise in vocational training and industrial innovation as vital to Nigeria’s sustainable growth ambitions.

According to Bagudu, President Bola Tinubu’s administration prioritises international cooperation that is mutually beneficial, transparent, and focused on long-term value creation rather than dependency on aid or goodwill.

“Our partnerships must be rooted in shared accountability and strategic results. We want collaboration that turns our National Development Plan into measurable outcomes,” he added.

Bagudu also discussed the importance of structured and legal migration as part of Nigeria’s strategy to convert its youthful population into globally competitive human capital.

“Through initiatives like this, we are not just exporting labour but skill, knowledge, and global competitiveness,” he said.

He revealed that the forthcoming 2026–2030 National Development Plan would institutionalise such collaborations to promote human capital development, trade facilitation, and innovation-driven economic growth.

Bagudu stressed that the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is focused on making Nigeria a hub for talent, productivity, and responsible global collaboration.

“That is the spirit of the Renewed Hope Agenda  building partnerships that create lasting prosperity for Nigerians and reinforce our credibility among global partners,” he said.

In response, Mr. Matthias Leder, Chief Executive Officer of IHK Giessen-Friedberg, commended Nigeria for sustaining engagement with Germany and pledged deeper cooperation in enterprise development and structured migration.

Leder also invited Bagudu to deliver the African Keynote Address at The World Meets in Giessen Conference scheduled for June 2026, a major international business forum.
