Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi has disclosed that winning another World Cup would top his career priorities, placing international team glory above personal accolades like the Ballon d’Or.

In a post shared on X by Fabrizio Romano on Wednesday, Messi was asked whether he would rather win another World Cup or another Ballon d’Or. Without hesitation, he replied, “Another World Cup.” The response reflects Messi’s ongoing passion for representing Argentina on the global stage, following their historic triumph at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Messi’s comments underline his long-standing belief in teamwork and national pride. While he has amassed a record-breaking eight Ballon d’Or awards over his illustrious career, the forward continues to prioritise contributing to his country’s footballing success over individual recognition.

The 36-year-old forward also addressed his post-retirement plans, stating he would prefer to become a club owner rather than a manager. “I’d say club owner,” Messi said, hinting at a desire to remain involved in football from a leadership and strategic perspective, potentially shaping the next generation of talent.

Messi also shared his thoughts on a potential return to the FIFA World Cup stage in 2026. He expressed excitement about the prospect but emphasized that participation would depend on his physical condition. “I want to help the national team, but only if I can give my best,” he explained.

The comments offer insight into Messi’s mentality as he balances the final stages of an extraordinary playing career with preparations for his life after football. Known for his humility, leadership, and relentless pursuit of excellence, Messi continues to inspire millions of fans worldwide with his dedication both on and off the pitch.
