The Zamfara State Police Command has rescued 25 people 10 women and 15 children who were abducted during a bandit attack on Kuraje village in the Damba area of Gusau Local Government Area on Friday night.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said in a statement on Saturday that the rescue followed a coordinated joint operation involving officers from Damba Division, the Department of Operations in Gusau, and the state Community Protection Guards .

According to the statement, the attack occurred at about 9:45 p.m. when a large group of armed bandits stormed the village, shooting sporadically before abducting women and children from their homes.

“Upon receiving the distress report, joint police patrol teams and the CPG swiftly mobilised to the scene,” Abubakar said. “The operatives confirmed the incident, pursued the fleeing bandits, and engaged them in a coordinated and strategic operation.”

He added that all 25 victims were rescued unhurt due to the professionalism and gallantry of the security operatives. The victims were later relocated to Sabongari Damba for safety and profiling before being reunited with their families.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, praised the officers for their bravery and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The incident adds to a series of recent abductions across the country, including the kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State on November 17, the abduction of worshippers during an attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara State on November 18, and the kidnapping of 303 pupils and 12 teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State on November 21.
