President Bola Tinubu has forwarded three names as ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation, ending a two-year delay in filling these key diplomatic positions.
The nominees include Kayode Are, Aminu Dalhatu and Ayodele Oke. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the submission during Wednesday’s plenary, noting, “The list contains three names for now, I am sure others will follow.”
Since assuming office, President Tinubu has not appointed any ambassadors, a situation critics have described as embarrassing for Nigeria on the international stage.
Top on the list is Lateef Kayode Are, a retired Nigerian Army Colonel who was Director General of the Nigerian State Security Service, SSS, from 1999 to 2007 and briefly served as National Security Adviser in 2010. Are served as an officer in the Directorate of Military Intelligence up until retirement by General Sani Abacha.
