Former Jigawa State Governor Alhaji Sule Lamido has given the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, a 10-day ultimatum to resolve what he described as the deepening internal crises threatening the foundation of the party.

Addressing hundreds of supporters and political associates who paid him a solidarity visit, Lamido insisted that the party was drifting dangerously and urgently needed structural clarity.

The supporters, who included former party chairmen, commissioners, and longstanding allies, pressed for the dissolution of the Ibadan elective convention.

They also demanded the immediate establishment of a national caretaker committee to steer the party through its mounting challenges.

According to them, the convention produced disputes that continue to destabilise the PDP, especially at the national level.

Lamido echoed these concerns, accusing emerging political blocs within the party of attempting to sideline older stakeholders and reconfigure the PDP’s long-standing power balance.

He said such deliberate attempts to erase his political relevance were at the heart of the ongoing turmoil.

However, he stressed that his legal actions were not driven by a quest for power but by a commitment to protect the integrity of the party and uphold his rights, which he argued had been violated.

He maintained that, according to the PDP constitution, Umar Damagum and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remained the legitimate national leaders until the expiration of their tenure on December 8, 2025.

Leaving the party without leadership clarity, he warned, would disrupt the ambitions of aspirants, current officeholders, and those seeking reelection in coming cycles.

Lamido called for a reset based on unity, urging key figures such as Nyesom Wike, Damagum, and other stakeholders to forgive past grievances and support the formation of a caretaker committee capable of restoring confidence.

He argued that only a unified leadership body could guide the party out of its present disputes.

He also urged the PDP leadership to convene an emergency meeting to address the issues openly and chart a realistic path toward rebuilding credibility.

According to him, transparent dialogue and adherence to established rules were essential for rescuing the party from internal disarray.

Lamido assured his supporters that patience was needed as the December 8 timeline approached, noting that the developments in the coming days would determine the future direction of the PDP.

He appealed for calm, stressing that the party still had an opportunity to realign and stabilise—if decisive steps were taken within the ultimatum period.
