Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami has confirmed receiving an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, assuring Nigerians of his readiness to comply.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Friday, Malami described himself as a law-abiding citizen and emphasized his commitment to accountability and transparency in public service.
“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he stated.
Malami explained that publicly disclosing the invitation aligns with his long-standing advocacy for openness and responsible governance.
He further promised to keep the public updated on any developments as the matter progresses.
Serving as Nigeria’s Attorney-General and Minister of Justice from 2015 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, Malami’s tenure was marked by several high-profile legal battles, including anti-corruption reforms and asset recovery initiatives.
He also handled cases related to international arbitration, governance reforms, and major financial crimes, often attracting both national and international attention.

During the later years of his service, Malami faced scrutiny over issues such as contract approvals, asset declarations, and the management of recovered funds, allegations he consistently denied.
Despite controversies, he maintained a public stance of transparency and accountability, which he reiterated in response to the EFCC invitation.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had not provided specifics regarding the nature or scope of the invitation extended to Malami.
Observers suggest that the matter could relate to ongoing investigations into government contracts, recovered assets, or other financial oversight matters from his tenure as AGF.
Malami’s announcement signals his willingness to cooperate fully with Nigeria’s anti-graft agencies, highlighting his emphasis on legal compliance and responsible public service.
His confirmation comes amid increased public scrutiny of past and present officials in the country’s ongoing fight against corruption.
