The immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress,APC, for the August 2026 election in Osun State.
Oyebamiji secured the party’s ticket on Saturday in Osogbo after seven other aspirants stepped down and adopted him as a consensus candidate during the APC governorship primary.
The motion for his adoption was moved by one of the aspirants, Mr Kunle Rasheed, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and seconded by another aspirant, Senator Babajide Omoworare.
Following the adoption, the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee for the congress, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, presented Oyebamiji’s candidacy for ratification through a voice vote.
The 1,660 accredited delegates drawn from the 30 local government areas of the state unanimously affirmed the decision.
“By the power vested in me, I declare Bola Oyebamiji as the APC candidate for the Aug. 8, 2026 governorship election in Osun State,” Okpebholo announced.
Okpebholo commended the other aspirants for setting aside their personal ambitions in the interest of party unity and the state’s development. He stressed that cohesion within the party remained key to securing victory in the 2026 election.

He urged the aspirants and party stakeholders to rally behind Oyebamiji, expressing confidence that the APC would reclaim the state. He also called on the electorate to support a candidate committed to development, noting that the people desired tangible progress.
Oyebamiji expressed gratitude to the aspirants for their sacrifice and support, describing their decision as a demonstration of party loyalty and statesmanship.
He credited his emergence to the backing of APC leaders and elders at both state and national levels and thanked President Bola Tinubu for his leadership, which he said had strengthened unity and progress within the party.
Oyebamiji pledged to serve the people of Osun State diligently, promising improved welfare and development if elected. He expressed confidence that the APC would take control of the state government in 2026.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the primary election was witnessed by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Governor Suleiman Abdullahi of Nasarawa State, and former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
Other dignitaries in attendance included the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Gboyega Oyetola; APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Basiru; party chieftains; and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
