The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission,ICPC, has confirmed the receipt of a formal petition from the President of Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, against the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, Farouk Ahmed.

The commission’s spokesperson, Mr. John Okor Odey disclosed that the petition would be subjected to due investigative processes in line with its mandate.

“The ICPC wishes to state that the petition will be duly investigated,” the statement said.

Dangote submitted the petition through his legal representative, Dr. O. J. Onoja, SAN.

The petition stems from allegations of unexplained wealth levelled against the NMDPRA chief, following public comments by Dangote questioning Ahmed’s lifestyle and financial capacity as a public office holder.

Farouk Ahmed is the head of the federal agency responsible for regulating Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum operations.

The ICPC has not disclosed details of the allegations contained in the petition, the scope of the investigation, or a timeline for its conclusion.

As of Tuesday, the NMDPRA had not issued an official response to the petition or the ICPC’s confirmation.

The development places the leadership of the petroleum regulatory authority under public scrutiny, as the anti-corruption agency proceeds with its assessment of the complaint submitted by Nigeria’s foremost industrialist.
