Author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Ivara Esege, have been thrown into mourning following the death of one of their twin boys, Nkanu Nnamdi.

The little died on Wednesday, January 7, after a short illness.
A statement released on Thursday, January 8, confirmed the death and revealed Nnamdi was just 21 months old.
The statement reads:
“We’re deeply saddened to confirm the passing of one of Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie & Dr Ivara Esege’s twin boys, Nkanu Nnamdi, who passed on Wednesday, 7th of January 2026, after a brief illness. He was 21 months old.
According to the statement, the family is heartbroken by the loss, and they have requested privacy during the tough time.

“The family is devastated by this profound loss, and we request that their privacy be respected during this incredibly difficult time. We ask for your grace and prayers as they mourn in private,” the statement continued.
They made it clear that no further statements will be made on the matter.
“No further statements will be made, and we thank the public and the media for respecting their need for seclusion during this period of immense grief.”
Following the death, fans have taken to social media to comfort Adichie and her family.
