Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Saturday evening defeated the Pharaohs of Egypt in the third-place match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, to emerge third-place winners at the competition.
Both teams failed to find the net in regulation time. Two goals scored by Nigeria were cancelled for offside – forcing the match to be decided via penalties.
In the ensuing shootouts, the Super Eagles, who lost on penalties to Morocco in the semi-final, triumphed 4-2 to emerge victorious after goalie Stanley Nwabali saved the kicks of superstars Salah and Oma Marmoush.
