The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, has praised the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services, DSS, and other security agencies for their exceptional performance in dismantling bandit strongholds across Mariga Local Government Area and Niger North senatorial district.
The commendation follows a highly successful intelligence-driven operation that led to the rescue of over 70 kidnapped persons, the neutralization of several bandits, and the arrest of numerous suspects terrorizing communities in the affected areas.
In a statement issued Sunday by the Assembly’s acting Director of Media and Public Relations, Mairo Adamu Mani, the Speaker described the operation as “a major breakthrough in the fight against insecurity” in the state.
“This decisive action has greatly weakened the activities of criminal elements in the affected areas and restored confidence among residents who had lived in fear for a long time,” Sarkin-Daji stated.

The Speaker particularly lauded the joint clearance operations conducted by the Army and DSS, emphasizing that the intelligence-based approach proved highly effective in achieving the remarkable results.
He praised the bravery, professionalism, and commitment demonstrated by security personnel during the operations, noting that their sacrifices have brought renewed hope to communities previously held hostage by fear.
Rt. Hon. Sarkin-Daji expressed deep appreciation for the officers and men who risked their lives to protect citizens, especially those in vulnerable communities that have borne the brunt of banditry attacks.
“I acknowledge the risks involved in such operations and express deep appreciation to the officers and men who put their lives on the line to ensure peace, stability, and the safety of citizens,” the Speaker said.
He specifically commended special forces and DSS operatives for their tireless efforts and continuous sacrifices in protecting lives and property across Niger State and Nigeria at large.
The Speaker assured security agencies of the unwavering support and cooperation of the Niger State Government, emphasizing that the state administration will continue to provide all necessary assistance to strengthen security operations.
“The Niger State Government remains fully committed to working closely with all security stakeholders to ensure that the lingering challenges of insecurity are completely addressed and brought to an end,” the statement declared.
Sarkin-Daji reaffirmed that the government considers the security of lives and property as its topmost priority, pledging continued collaboration with security forces to sustain the gains achieved.
The Speaker appealed to all Niger State residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while the government intensifies efforts to restore complete normalcy across the state.
He encouraged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely information that will aid ongoing and future operations aimed at sustaining peace and stability.
“I call on all Nigerlites to cooperate with security agencies through the provision of actionable intelligence that will help consolidate our collective efforts toward achieving lasting peace,” he stated.
Security analysts view the successful rescue operation as a turning point in Niger State’s battle against banditry, which has plagued several local government areas in recent years.
The rescue of 70 kidnapped victims represents one of the largest single operations against bandit networks in the state, signaling improved coordination and intelligence gathering among security agencies.
Residents of affected communities have expressed relief and gratitude, with many hoping that the operation marks the beginning of sustained peace in areas that have experienced repeated attacks and mass abductions.
The Niger State Government has intensified security measures across vulnerable areas, deploying additional personnel and resources to prevent regrouping of fleeing bandits and protect communities from potential reprisal attacks.
