The United States, US, has frozen the assets of eight Nigerians connected to Boko Haram and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, ISIL, the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, OFAC, confirmed in a 3,000-page report released on February 10, 2026.
The sanctions target individuals and organizations accused of supporting terrorism, violating religious freedom, and engaging in cybercrime.
Notable names include Salih Yusuf Adamu, convicted in the UAE for attempting to transfer $782,000 to fund Boko Haram, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Governor of Kano State, along with members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria.
Other individuals sanctioned include Abu Abdullah ibn Umar Al-Barnawi, Abu Musab Al-Barnawi, Khaled Al-Barnawi, Ibrahim Ali Alhassan, and Abu Bakr Al-Mainuki, all identified for links to Boko Haram or ISIL, as well as Nnamdi Orson Benson, sanctioned for cyber-related offences.

Under the sanctions, all property of the listed individuals within US jurisdiction is blocked, and American citizens are prohibited from conducting transactions with them.
These measures are part of Executive Order 13224 targeting terrorism financing and related crimes.
Boko Haram, designated a foreign terrorist organization by the US in 2013, continues to pose a threat in northern and northeastern Nigeria, as well as the Lake Chad Basin.
In October 2025, Nigeria was again listed as a “Country of Particular Concern” by the US over alleged religious freedom violations.
