A Sokoto-based philanthropist, Alhaji Abdulkadir Dan’iya, has distributed N200 million and 10,000 bags of rice to vulnerable residents across Sokoto State to support them during the ongoing Ramadan fast.
Dan’iya, who channelled the donation through the Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment Agency, said the intervention was designed to complement the efforts of the state government in ensuring that the less privileged observe Ramadan with ease.
“We are aware of the commitment of the state government under the leadership of Gov. Ahmed Aliyu to support our brothers, scholars, Imams, and other vulnerable persons among us,” he said.
“As such, we are motivated to sustain our commitment to complement government efforts toward enhancing the required action plan in addressing the needs of the less privileged.”

The philanthropist explained that the distribution would cover all 23 local government areas of the state, as well as special groups such as persons living with disabilities and cemetery workers. Each beneficiary, he added, would receive one bag of rice and a cash donation of N10,000 to cover transportation costs.
He commended the agency for ensuring that assistance routed through it reaches the intended beneficiaries in a transparent and orderly manner.
In his remarks, the agency’s chairman, Malam Lawal Maidoki, described the gesture as one of the noblest acts in Islam, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. He noted that the donor’s intervention had become a consistent annual tradition spanning over five years and was not limited to the fasting period alone.
Maidoki urged other affluent individuals in the state to emulate the philanthropist’s commitment while appreciating the state government and the Sultanate Council for their sustained support to vulnerable groups.
Also speaking, the District Head of Gagi, Alhaji Sani Umar, said the initiative would continue to serve as a lasting endowment for the needy and a means of preserving the donor’s wealth through charitable impact. He encouraged well-meaning citizens to dedicate part of their earnings to improving the living conditions of the less privileged, especially during Ramadan.
