A fire outbreak has reportedly engulfed the old terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, a facility currently undergoing a multi-billion-naira renovation.

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire affected a section of the old terminal currently under renovation, with construction materials and equipment believed to be within the impacted area. Officials are yet to determine the exact cause of the outbreak, but investigations are expected to commence immediately after the situation is fully contained.
Airport operations at other terminals of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport were not immediately disrupted, as emergency responders swiftly isolated the affected zone to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining structures. Aviation authorities are also reviewing safety compliance measures at the renovation site.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria assured stakeholders that a comprehensive assessment would be carried out to evaluate structural impact and determine the next steps in the ongoing upgrade project, while reiterating its commitment to passenger safety and infrastructure modernization.
