The Police Command in Ondo State has confirmed the abduction of six worshippers at a celestial church located along Uso/Owo Expressway in Owo Local Government Area of the state.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s spokesperson, who confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday, said the incident occurred in the early hours of Feb. 25 at approximately 12:50 a.m.
Jimoh explained that the victims were reportedly taken to an unknown destination by the attackers.
“Upon receiving the report, the operatives of the command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, immediately mobilised to the scene and commenced coordinated rescue operations.
“As a result of sustained joint efforts, one of the kidnapped victims has been successfully rescued.
“Additionally, one suspected informant linked to the incident has been arrested and is currently assisting with ongoing investigations.

“Security operations are ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and the apprehension of all perpetrators involved,” he said.
The spokesperson, therefore, urged residents to remain calm and vigilant and to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and actionable information that may assist ongoing operations.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived in multiple vehicles and opened fire near the church premises, causing panic among worshippers and residents in the area. Many people reportedly fled to nearby homes and businesses to seek safety.
Local leaders and community members have condemned the attack, calling for urgent action from security agencies to prevent further incidents. They expressed concern over the safety of religious gatherings in the region.
The Ondo State Police Command has appealed to the public to provide any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the remaining kidnappers. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious movements while avoiding confrontation with the suspects.
Security analysts have warned that attacks like these could escalate if not swiftly addressed, emphasizing the importance of coordinated operations between police, military, and local vigilante groups to secure vulnerable communities.
