The All-Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia has elected Mr Chijioke Chukwu, a former Minority Leader of Abia House of Assembly emerging as the new State Chairman.

Mr Chidi Avajah was returned as Secretary, during the state congress that held on Tuesday in Umuahia.

Various party stakeholders in their goodwill messages endorsed the new leadership that emerged from the consensus-driven election.

They described the development as part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

The rancour-free congress also had former member of the state assembly, Mr Emeka Okoroafor, emerge as State Organising Secretary and Mr Uche Aguoru as Publicity Secretary.

The new harmonised members of the state executive also include Mr John Ajuziogu (Treasure), Mr Nnabugu Ujumunna (Financial Secretary), Mr Jerry Away (Youth Leader), Cecilia Erondu (Woman Leader) among several positions.

The Chairman of the Congress Committee, Mr Emmanuel Go’ar, who announced the new executive, commended the party members for their unity and commitment in ensuring a peaceful and transparent congress.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the new executive were immediately inaugurated.

The APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, had earlier directed the immediate swearing-in of newly elected Ward, Local Government, and State Executive Committee members.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, praised the process, stating that it marked a new chapter for the APC in Abia.

Kalu used the opportunity to thank President Bola Tinubu, for his commitment and exemplary leadership in ensuring a harmonious congress.

According to him, Mr President is a true democrat, who knows the value of harmonisation, consensus and agreement.

“APC is stronger, healthier and can break wall now.

“Come 2027, we have no alternative candidate other than President Bola Tinubu and on his mandate, we shall stand,” Kalu said.

In his acceptance speech, the new chairman, Chukwu, urged cooperation among members and promised to unite the party from grassroots to top leadership.

He reiterated that APC was ready to win elections at all levels, including the governorship race.

“Elections are won through active grassroots engagement, not social media,” the chairman said.
