The Police Service Commission,PSC, has approved the promotion of 13 Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, AIGs.

The development follows their successful performance in the recently concluded written examinations and oral interviews held at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.

PSC described the elevation as a merit-based exercise aimed at strengthening professionalism and leadership within the force.

Head of Protocol and Public Affairs at the Police Service Commission, Torty Kalu disclosed that the list of successful officers has been forwarded to the Inspector-General of Police for immediate implementation.

The newly promoted AIGs include Emmanuel Ado Christopher (former CP, Yobe State), Joseph Eribo (former CP, Ekiti State), Dantawaye Miller (former CP, FCT), Uche Ifeanyi Henry, Olarenwaju Peter Ogunlowo (former CP, Ogun State) and Muhammad Dahiru (former CP, Jigawa State).

Others are Dankombo Morris (former CP, Adamawa State), Bello Shehu (former CP, Katsina State), Ibrahim B. Maikaba (former CP, Zamfara State), Ahmed Musa (former CP, Sokoto State), Olohundare Moshood Jimoh (former CP, Lagos State), Simeon Udofia Akpanudom, and Haruna Olufemi (former CP, Oyo State).

Credible News reports that recently the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu decorated newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police and charged them to strengthen intelligence-led policing, deepen inter-agency cooperation and enhance operational coordination across commands.

The officers decorated include Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie and Umar Shehu Nadada. Another officer, Fayoade Adegoke, had been decorated a week earlier.

Disu emphasised that the new rank places the officers in key leadership positions within the Force and comes with significant responsibilities.

“Your leadership must inspire confidence within the Force and trust among the citizens we are sworn to protect. Let your tenure at this level be defined by discipline, fairness, transparency and service,” the IGP said.

He noted that promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General represents one of the highest levels of professional trust in the Nigeria Police Force and demands integrity, courage and commitment to justice.

According to him, the new DIGs are expected to provide institutional direction, strengthen internal discipline and drive ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the police.
