The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu has visited Jos following the deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba that left 27 people dead and 19 others injured, assuring residents that those behind the incident will be apprehended and prosecuted.
The visit comes amid heightened concerns over security in the area. Addressing members of the affected community, the IGP expressed sadness over the attack and reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to restoring peace and stability in Plateau State.
Police authorities said several suspects have already been arrested in connection with the attack, while investigations continue. Among those in custody is an individual alleged to have been impersonating a soldier.
During the visit, Disu also toured the affected community and later visited hospitals where victims injured in the attack are receiving treatment. He offered words of comfort to the wounded and assured them of the police force’s support.

At the Government House in Jos, the IGP met with Plateau State Governor Caleb Muftwang and members of the State Executive Council. He condoled with the governor and the people of the state, describing the killings as painful and unacceptable, and pledged that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
Governor Muftwang commended the IGP for his swift visit and prompt intervention, describing the action as timely and reassuring at a moment of grief for the people of Plateau State.
The governor also praised the quick deployment of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, saying the move helped to stabilise the situation in the aftermath of the attack.
Muftwang further lauded the Plateau State Commissioner of Police for what he described as exemplary leadership and professionalism. He also acknowledged the bravery of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the Mobile Police units, for their role in containing the crisis.
While appreciating the efforts of security agencies, the governor appealed for the deployment of more police personnel to the state, noting that an increased security presence would help reassure residents and improve public safety.
He reiterated the state government’s readiness to continue working closely with the police, stressing that improved security remains essential to safeguarding lives, attracting investment, and supporting economic growth.
The IGP’s visit underscores the gravity of the situation and the resolve of both the police and the Plateau State Government to work together to restore peace in the state.
