Kwara State has emerged as the leading state in Nigeria with the highest number of governorship aspirants under the All-Progressives Congress, APC, Ahmed Ajikobi reports.

A record number of 15 aspirants from the state have obtained the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms, placing Kwara at the forefront of early political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This figure significantly surpasses that of other states, reflecting Kwara’s growing prominence in the unfolding political landscape.

In comparison, Adamawa State recorded 8 aspirants, while both Oyo and Yobe States have 6 aspirants each. Bauchi and Nasarawa States follow with 5 aspirants, reflecting moderate levels of political activity within those regions.

The data further reveals a broader national trend of heightened engagement within the ruling party.

So far, the APC may have generated a substantial ₦4.45 billion from the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms.

This revenue has been driven by two presidential aspirants and more than 83 governorship aspirants across 28 states.

Political analysts view Kwara’s leading position as indicative of intensifying internal competition and renewed interest in the state’s top seat.

Observers note that the surge in aspirants may reflect both the perceived strategic importance of the state and the evolving dynamics within its political structure.

As the 2027 election cycle gathers momentum, attention is likely to remain fixed on Kwara, where a crowded field of aspirants signals not only ambition but also the potential for a highly competitive primary contest within the APC.
