The Police Command in Ekiti has dismissed a police sergeant, Osayingbemi Temitop for his involvement in an incident linked to illicit drug use.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu disclosed this in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, the officer was captured in a viral video “behaving erratically” at Ikole-Ekiti on May 9, after allegedly consuming illicit substances.
He explained that the officer was immediately subjected to medical and psychological evaluations as well as internal disciplinary procedures.
He disclosed that the psychological assessment confirmed that the officer was emotionally stable, while the medical test revealed traces of tobacco and amphetamine in his system.
“During further enquiries, the officer confessed to having taken some illicit drugs,” Abutu said.
The command’s spokesperson stated that the disciplinary procedures had been concluded and the officer found culpable of misconduct.
“He was recommended for dismissal and the recommendation was upheld. The Command hereby confirms his dismissal with immediate effect,” he said.
Abutu reiterated that the police remained a disciplined organization that would not condone acts of indiscipline, unprofessional conduct or any behavior capable of tarnishing the image of the Force.
He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Falade Micheal, charged officers and men of the command to uphold discipline, professionalism, accountability and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
The Police Command in Ondo State says it has arrested a suspect and recovered a stolen vehicle during registration in Akure, Ondo State capital.
In a related development, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s Spokesperson, made this known in a statement on Friday in Akure, that the breakthrough was part of the command’s efforts to combat vehicle theft, trafficking of stolen automobiles, and other related criminal activities across the state.
The spokesperson, who explained that the suspect, identified as Ayodabo Temitope, male, aged 39, stole a Toyota RAV4, said he was arrested by the operatives of Fagun Division, Akure, on Monday.

According to him, the intelligence-driven operation was carried out by the operatives of the command after receiving credible information concerning a suspicious attempt to register a Toyota RAV4 believed to have been stolen.
“Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the operatives immediately mobilized to the location for discreet monitoring and prompt intervention.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the suspect was apprehended while allegedly attempting to process registration of documents for the vehicle under suspicious circumstances.
“Following the arrest, detectives commenced preliminary interrogation and expanded investigation, which subsequently led operatives to Ifetedo Area where the vehicle was successfully recovered.
“Further investigation revealed that the recovered Toyota RAV4 belongs to one Sanni Halilulai of Ireshe Road, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
“The owner was immediately contacted, and he confirmed that the vehicle had earlier been stolen from where it was parked on Sept.17, 2025,” he said.
Jimoh said investigation continued to determine the full circumstances surrounding the theft and possible alteration of vehicle particulars.
The spokesperson said the investigation would also determine the involvement of other members of the criminal network believed to be connected to the case.
“Following proper verification of the vehicle particulars and relevant ownership, the recovered Toyota RAV4 has since been released to its rightful owner accordingly.
“The suspect currently in custody will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation.
“The owner of the vehicle, while taking possession, expressed profound appreciation to the Police Command in Ondo State for the swift response, professionalism, and diligent efforts of the operatives involved in the recovery operation,” he said.
Jimoh also said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, commended the professionalism, vigilance and swift response of the operatives.
According to him, the success recorded further demonstrates the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention strategies and the protection of property within Ondo state.
“The CP further reassures the public that the command remains resolute in dismantling criminal syndicates involved in vehicle theft, trafficking of stolen vehicles, and other related organized crime across the state.
“Ondo State will not serve as a safe haven for criminals, while all perpetrators of crime will be diligently tracked, apprehended, and made to face the full weight of the law.
“Adebowale also urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, stressing that public cooperation remains a vital component in strengthening security architecture and combating criminal activities across the state,” he said.
