Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has confirmed that seven teachers were kidnapped during a recent attack in Oriire Local Government Area, with one of the victims reportedly killed by the abductors on Sunday morning.
Speaking during an interview on Sunday, the governor provided fresh details about the incident, which has raised serious security concerns in parts of the state.
Makinde disclosed that security agencies are intensifying efforts to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
“Seven teachers were abducted during the incident, but sadly, one of them has been killed this morning by the abductors,” the governor stated.
He described the killing as tragic and unfortunate, while assuring residents that his administration remains committed to strengthening security measures in vulnerable communities across the state.
The governor added that the state government is working closely with security agencies and local intelligence networks to combat criminal activities and ensure the safe return of the abducted teachers.
Makinde also urged residents to stay alert and support security operatives by sharing timely and credible information that could help prevent future attacks.
The abduction, which occurred in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has drawn widespread condemnation from political leaders, stakeholders, and residents, many of whom are calling for urgent steps to improve security around schools and rural communities.
