The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu has charged commanders to translate deliberations from the Nigerian Army’s first bi-annual conference into measurable operational outcomes.

Shaibu gave the charge on Wednesday in Abuja at the close of a three-day conference, describing the engagements as “robust, solution-oriented and forward-looking.”

He said the conference reviewed ongoing operations, training and the evolving security environment, with emphasis on building a more adaptive, combat-ready and technology-driven force.

“The true value of this conference lies not in the quality of presentations alone, but in the extent to which decisions are implemented,” he said.

The COAS noted that discussions covered intelligence, operations, logistics, welfare and institutional reforms, all geared towards enhancing effectiveness in tackling emerging threats.

He highlighted the army’s ongoing investment in modern capabilities, including the acquisition of proctored TB2 drones and the configuration of Army aviation assets for combat roles.

He said that these platforms have boosted surveillance, target acquisition, precision strikes and casualty evacuation.

Shaibu also underscored the importance of professionalism, discipline and meritocracy, adding that ongoing reforms in training, leadership development and military education were key to institutional growth.

He reaffirmed the army’s “soldier-first” philosophy, stressing that improved welfare- including prompt payment of entitlements, better healthcare and educational support- would enhance morale and operational effectiveness.

“A well-motivated soldier in a conducive environment will demonstrate higher morale, loyalty and effectiveness,” he said.

The army chief commended participants for focusing on practical solutions rather than challenges, saying this was reflective of a shared commitment to strengthening the Nigerian Army.

He commended field commanders and principal staff officers for their dedication, as well as the organizers of the conference for ensuring a successful outing.

The COAS urged personnel to uphold professionalism as they return to their formations, reiterating the Army’s commitment to continuous transformation and national service.
