Senator Alli wins Oyo APC governorship ticket

Oyo South senator, Sharafadeen Alli has picked the governorship ticket of the All-Progressives Congress, APC, defeating his fierce challenger, Adebayo Adelabu.

Alli had 578,143 votes while Adelabu, former minister of power, scored 19,193 votes. He resigned from his ministerial position to contest the Oyo State governorship seat.

Recall that the former minister had alleged that the primary election was manipulated. Adelabu made the allegation on Thursday while interacting with newsmen after voting at his ward. Speaking to journalists, he said, “I must sound this note of warning that it is not this way in a lot of other wards.

“Reports reaching me state that there are a lot of gross misconducts in the other wards, ranging from various forms of infractions.

“In some wards, they conducted the election hours before the appointed time and wrote the figures they liked,” he said.

The APC last ruled Oyo state during the tenure of the late governor Ajimola Ajimobi before Engineer Seyi Makinde of the PDP took over on May 29, 2019.

Makinde has since announced a merger between the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, in the state and is looking to install a successor.
