Spain forward Lamine Yamal has performed Umrah after helping his country win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying the pilgrimage fulfilled a promise he made to God before the tournament.
The 19-year-old travelled to Saudi Arabia with his mother and younger brother shortly after Spain’s World Cup triumph. During the pilgrimage, he expressed gratitude for what he described as Allah’s blessings, crediting his success on the pitch to his faith and his family’s prayers.
Speaking about the journey, Yamal said every milestone in his career had come through Allah’s mercy and grace. “Allah has blessed me with everything I ever dreamed of at just 19 years old. Every success I’ve achieved is because of His endless mercy and grace,” he said.
He disclosed that he entered the World Cup final with complete confidence that Spain would emerge victorious. “Before the World Cup final, I had unwavering faith that we would become champions,” Yamal said.

The Barcelona star recalled that his mother spent three consecutive nights praying for his success and Spain’s victory ahead of the final. “My mother spent three nights in prayer, asking Allah for my success and for the team’s victory.
“Just two hours before the final, she told me, ‘I have complete faith that Allah has accepted my prayers and you will win.'”
Yamal said completing Umrah was only one part of the vow he made before the tournament, adding that he intends to build a mosque as an act of gratitude. “After returning from Umrah, I will begin building a mosque as it is a promise I made to Allah,” he said.
Images shared from the pilgrimage showed Yamal alongside his mother and younger brother reading the Quran and performing Umrah rituals at the Kaaba in Makkah.
His decision to undertake the pilgrimage immediately after Spain’s World Cup success has drawn praise from many supporters on social media, with fans commending the teenager for publicly expressing his faith following one of the biggest achievements of his career.
