Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled an attempted infiltration by terrorists at the Forward Operating Base in Kasuwan Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, when the terrorists attempted to breach the military facility under the cover of darkness. The troops detected the movement and responded with coordinated firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said the attack resulted in heavy casualties for the terrorists.
He said reinforcements were deployed during the engagement, leading to a hot pursuit of the fleeing attackers, who had abducted an unspecified number of residents from nearby communities.
“The relentless pursuit by the troops led to the rescue of nine abducted locals, who were safely recovered,” Osoba said.

He, however, confirmed that an Army officer and a police officer were killed during the firefight, while two soldiers sustained gunshot injuries and were evacuated by air for further medical treatment. The injured personnel are currently in stable condition.
Osoba said troops have since secured and dominated the area while conducting exploitation operations to determine the extent of the terrorists’ losses and ensure the safety of residents.
He dismissed reports circulating online that six military personnel were killed, clarifying that only one Army officer and one police officer lost their lives during the operation.
According to him, the failed infiltration attempt highlights the growing challenges faced by armed groups in carrying out coordinated attacks against troops operating under heightened alert.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA, he added, remains committed to sustaining offensive operations aimed at protecting vulnerable communities and dismantling terrorist networks across the North-West region.
