Jigawa State Government has opened bids for contracts worth N5.331 billion to support basic education projects across the state under the 2025 Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, and State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, intervention programme.

The projects, which are divided into 108 lots, cover the renovation and construction of classrooms, provision of classroom furniture and core-subject textbooks, as well as the construction of boreholes and toilet blocks in all 27 local government areas of the state.

At the bid opening session, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Prof. Haruna Musa, said 324 companies participated in the bidding process.

Musa, who was represented by the board’s Director of Works, Isa Abdullahi, said the projects were designed to improve learning conditions and expand access to quality basic education across the state.

He said the projects formed part of the administration of Governor Umar Namadi’s efforts to create an enabling environment for children to access quality basic education, in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“These projects will also strengthen Governor Namadi’s campaign against out-of-school children, encourage community participation and, above all, achieve improved learning outcomes in foundational skills across the state,” he said.

Musa said the contracts would be awarded to qualified companies, assuring participants that due process and transparency would guide the selection process.

He also assured contractors that the state government would honour its contractual obligations, including the timely payment of certified projects.

However, he warned contractors against compromising quality, standards or contractual requirements. “We are also warning contractors that any attempt to compromise quality, standards, or contractual agreements will not be tolerated.

The Jigawa State Government will not hesitate to take all necessary actions, including the revocation of such contracts,” Musa said.
