Renowned journalist and communications expert, Olumuyiwa Akintunde, has assumed office as President of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism Alumni Association in Lagos.
Akintunde took over the leadership of the association on August 22, heading a seven-member executive committee tasked with strengthening alumni engagement, advancing members’ professional interests and supporting the development of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, NIJ.
The new executive committee comprises Isabella Omwen Adesola as Vice President, Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji as General Secretary, Chika Nnamani as Assistant Secretary, Mark Akhuetie as Publicity Secretary, Pelumi Oluwayomi as Organising Secretary, and Adegbemi Adewale as Legal Adviser.
The association expects Akintunde and his team to implement a six-point agenda centred on reconnecting members and promoting unity under the theme, “One NIJ, One Voice.”
The first priority includes establishing a global membership database, creating pan-Nigerian and diaspora chapters, and organizing quarterly town hall meetings to strengthen engagement among alumni.
Other pillars of the agenda are professional advancement and industry leadership; members’ welfare and opportunities; giving back to NIJ under the “Alma Mater First” initiative; strengthening governance and transparency; and developing projects focused on the association’s brand and legacy.
