Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Arsenal midfielder Ethan Nwaneri on loan, giving the Nigeria-eligible youngster another opportunity to continue his development away from the Premier League.
Dortmund confirmed that Nwaneri has joined the Bundesliga club on loan from Arsenal until the end of the 2026/27 season.
The move comes after Dortmund suffered a setback with Giannis Konstantelias ruled out with a serious knee injury.
Nwaneri spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Marseille after struggling to secure regular first-team opportunities at Arsenal.
The midfielder made 11 appearances for the French club and scored twice before returning to Arsenal in June.
His move to Dortmund marks his second consecutive loan spell and offers him another opportunity to gain valuable first-team experience at one of Germany’s leading clubs.
The Bundesliga switch could also provide Nwaneri with a fresh platform to develop his game and compete at a high level.

Nwaneri’s move to Germany is also expected to attract attention from Nigeria, with the Arsenal academy graduate still eligible to represent the Super Eagles at senior international level.
Born in London, Nwaneri qualifies to represent Nigeria through his father. The midfielder has represented England at various youth levels, progressing through to the Under-21 side.
He was also invited into Thomas Tuchel’s senior England squad for a training camp ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
However, Nwaneri has yet to be permanently tied to England at senior international level. That leaves the door open for Nigeria to continue monitoring the highly rated midfielder as the Super Eagles consider their options for the future.
Nwaneri will now look to make an impact in Germany and use his season-long spell at Dortmund to establish himself at senior level.
For Arsenal, the loan move provides the youngster with another opportunity to gain regular competitive experience and continue his development away from the pressure of the Premier League.
For Nigeria, his progress in the Bundesliga could further strengthen interest in convincing the talented midfielder to choose the Super Eagles at senior international level.
