Manchester City are stepping up their efforts to sign Super Falcons midfielder Jennifer Echegini from Paris Saint-Germain, with the Women’s Super League champions determined to complete the deal before the transfer window closes.

City have already made several approaches for the Nigeria international, but their offers have been rejected by PSG, who remain reluctant to let the midfielder leave.

According to Guardian Sport women’s football writer Tom Garry, Manchester City remain keen to secure Echegini’s services and are continuing their push ahead of the WSL transfer deadline tonight.

The English club are understood to see the 25-year-old as a valuable addition to their squad and have continued negotiations despite PSG turning down previous offers.

With the transfer window approaching its deadline, City now face a race against time to convince the French club to sanction the midfielder’s departure.

PSG are unwilling to easily part ways with Echegini, who still has one year remaining on her contract with the French club.

The midfielder has established herself as an important member of the Parisian side since joining in 2024 and has continued to develop her reputation at the highest level of European women’s football.

Her contract situation, however, could increase the importance of the current negotiations, with PSG potentially having to make a decision over whether to retain the player or accept a suitable offer before she enters the final year of her deal.

A move to Manchester City would not be unfamiliar territory for Echegini, who already has experience of English football.

The Nigeria international spent parts of her youth career with Charlton Athletic, Millwall and Arsenal before continuing her development outside England.

Her previous experience in the English game could make the transition to City relatively straightforward should the transfer be completed.

Before joining PSG, Echegini spent a season with Juventus, where she enjoyed an impressive campaign. The midfielder scored 10 goals in 16 appearances for the Italian club, performances that helped strengthen her reputation and attract further attention from top European clubs. Her form eventually led to a move to PSG in 2024, where she has continued to play an important role.

Manchester City’s latest push highlights their determination to bring Echegini back to England, but PSG’s resistance remains a major obstacle.

With the transfer window closing tonight, City will need to reach an agreement with the French club if they are to complete the signing of the Super Falcons star.

For Echegini, a move to the reigning WSL champions would represent another major step in her European career and a return to the English league where she spent part of her early football development.
