Anthony Joshua has reportedly secured a record £10 million deal with Netflix for a four-part documentary series chronicling his life, boxing career and some of the most difficult moments he has faced inside and outside the ring.
The series is expected to examine Joshua’s troubled younger years, his rise from Olympic champion to heavyweight world champion, his shock 2019 defeat by Andy Ruiz Jr., and the devastating car crash in Nigeria that killed two of his close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. The documentary is reportedly scheduled to premiere in spring 2027.
According to reports, the project has been in development for several years and is being produced by SBX. Netflix reportedly beat competition from other platforms to secure the series, which is expected to offer extensive access to Joshua’s personal and professional life.
Joshua, who was born in Watford to Nigerian parents, emerged as one of Britain’s leading heavyweight boxers after winning Olympic gold at the London 2012 Games. He turned professional later that year and went on to win the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles.
One of the defining chapters of his career came on June 1, 2019, when Joshua suffered his first professional defeat against Andy Ruiz Jr. at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Joshua entered the bout as the unified heavyweight champion with a 22-0 professional record, but Ruiz produced a major upset, stopping him by seventh-round technical knockout after knocking him down multiple times.

Six months later, Joshua regained the titles by defeating Ruiz by unanimous decision in their rematch in Saudi Arabia.
The two-fight rivalry became an important turning point in Joshua’s career and is expected to feature prominently in the documentary’s account of his rise, setbacks and subsequent comeback.
The series will also address the December 2025 crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of Ghami and Ayodele, two men who had worked closely with Joshua.
The accident occurred on December 29, 2025, when the vehicle carrying Joshua, Ghami, Ayodele and another passenger collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Joshua sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital, while Ghami and Ayodele died in the crash.
Ghami worked as Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele was one of his trainers. Joshua later paid tribute to both men, describing them as close friends and integral members of his team.
The tragedy occurred less than two weeks after Joshua returned to action with a sixth-round knockout of American social media personality Jake Paul in Miami on December 19, 2025. The bout, which was streamed by Netflix, marked Joshua’s return to the ring after a 15-month absence.
Joshua entered 2026 having rebuilt momentum following the victory over Paul, but the fatal crash added a deeply personal dimension to a period already marked by significant changes in his career.
The documentary is therefore expected to span more than Joshua’s achievements in the ring, following his journey from his early years through world championship success, career setbacks and personal tragedy.
If released as currently reported, the four-part series will premiere on Netflix in spring 2027, giving viewers an extended account of the experiences that have shaped Joshua’s life and career.
