The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has warned Nigerians against a fraudulent website claiming that nationwide online voter registration has reopened ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The warning followed the circulation of information announcing a purported fresh registration period from September 28 to October 27.
INEC said the website carrying the announcement was fake and had no affiliation with the Commission.
The Commission identified the fraudulent website as tinyurl.com/inecnigeria-cvr-org and advised members of the public not to visit the platform or provide personal information through it.
INEC warned that submitting personal details on the website could expose users to the risk of having their sensitive data harvested or misused.
The Commission also clarified that the voter registration exercise closed on the 26th of July.

It said any information suggesting that a new nationwide online voter registration exercise was currently taking place through the fraudulent website was false.
INEC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify electoral information through its official communication channels before acting on announcements circulated online.
The Commission said members of the public should disregard the fraudulent website and rely only on information issued through its official channels.
INEC’s official website currently provides voter-related services, including voter verification and polling-unit information, while the Commission’s Citizens Contact Centre lists its official contact channels for electoral enquiries.
The Commission’s official voter-registration information also identifies its authorized online platforms for voter registration services.
