Troops of Operation HADIN KAI say they killed six suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, fighters while repelling an attack on a military base in Garaha, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The attack happened at about 9:07 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026, when the insurgents reportedly advanced on foot from the Lar axis to try to overrun Forward Operating Base, FOB, Garaha.
Reports from the area say they also tried to destroy a telecommunications mast carrying military surveillance cameras used to monitor the area and support patrols. Troops, backed by forest guards and local hunters, drove the attackers back.
The Hong Local Government chairman, Dr Aliyu Yerima Sa’ad Hong, confirmed the incident. He said the insurgents tried to attack the mast between 8:30 p.m. and 11:50 p.m., and that the combined efforts of security personnel and hunters kept them from reaching it.
“Unfortunately for the insurgents, a lot of them were killed, though they evacuated some of the corpses. At the moment, four of their corpses were recovered,” he said.
Sa’ad Hong said no civilian was killed in Garaha, although two shops were burnt. Two soldiers were wounded by gunfire and are receiving medical care.
He added that while retreating from Garaha, the insurgents killed a civilian and burnt houses in Lar village.
He said items recovered from the attackers included six AK-47 rifles, 11 magazines, a PKT machine gun with ammunition, a night-vision device, a phone and cutlasses.
He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting the security agencies in protecting residents and preventing further attacks.
The military also confirmed the incident in a statement signed by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force, Northeast, Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri. It said troops of Sector 4 repelled a coordinated attack on the base.

“However, troops responded with superior firepower and tactical coordination, decisively repelling the assault and forcing the terrorists to retreat,” the statement said.
The military said follow-up operations in the area turned up six bodies, confirming that six insurgents had been neutralized.
It said troops recovered six AK-47 rifles, 11 magazines, a PKT machine gun with ammunition belts, 7.62mm ammunition, a 60mm mortar bomb, a phone, a portable video recorder, water bags, a magazine carrier and assorted clothing.
The statement acknowledged that troops suffered casualties, adding that the wounded were receiving medical care and arrangements were being made to evacuate them.
It said troops remain vigilant and are continuing operations in the area to prevent further attacks and recover more items.
Garaha, the hometown of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, lies in the mountainous part of Hong Local Government Area.
It has been attacked before, and its closeness to the Sambisa Forest in neighboring Borno State is often cited as a security concern. The town was also attacked on October 1, 2026.
