The Delta State Government has declared three days of mourning for former Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, who died at the age of 71.
The directive, announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, takes effect on Monday, October 19.
As part of the mourning arrangements, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has directed that all flags on public buildings across the state be flown at half-mast throughout the period.
President Bola Tinubu has expressed sorrow over Uduaghan’s death, describing it as a major loss to Delta State and Nigeria.
In a condolence message issued on Monday, Tinubu said the former governor devoted his years in public office to the development of Delta State, particularly through investments in infrastructure, healthcare delivery and programmes to improve residents’ welfare.
The President extended his condolences to Uduaghan’s family, the Delta State Government, residents of the state, and the deceased’s political associates and friends.
Tinubu recalled that Uduaghan served as Delta State Commissioner for Health and Secretary to the State Government before becoming governor in 2007. He served two terms, leaving office in 2015.
“Dr Uduaghan was a public servant whose leadership was devoted to Delta State’s development and service to our nation,” Tinubu said.

“May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and comfort all who mourn him,” the President said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has also mourned the former governor’s death.
