The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has intensified  surveillance across airport operations after a confirmed Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, case in the Federal Capital Territory, assuring travellers of its unwavering commitment to protecting public health.

The Authority said it was working with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, Port Health Services, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, and other relevant agencies to support ongoing containment efforts.

The director, Public Affair and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, FAAN said it was maintaining heightened vigilance across airport operations and would continue to coordinate its response with public health authorities to address potential health threats.

The Authority said that promptly identifying the case and beginning contact tracing show the value of clear health protocols, strong surveillance, and close cooperation among agencies.

“The early identification of the case and commencement of contact tracing underscore the importance of established public health protocols, effective surveillance and inter-agency collaboration in responding to potential health threats,” he stated.

He continued, “FAAN is maintaining heightened vigilance across airport operations and will continue to coordinate with public health authorities, align its response with further guidance and support additional measures considered necessary to safeguard passengers, airport personnel and the wider public,” Agbebire stated.

He added that it would align its response with further guidance from relevant health authorities and support additional measures considered necessary to protect passengers, airport personnel and the wider public.

FAAN urged passengers, airport users, airlines and other aviation stakeholders to remain calm, vigilant and cooperative with health officials as efforts to contain the case continue.

The Authority urged the public to rely only on verified updates and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports that could cause needless panic.

FAAN also restated its commitment to working closely with relevant agencies to safeguard public health while keeping Nigeria’s airports safe and operational.
